Degrassi: Top Characters

8 Jul

Degrassi has had many characters, but throughout those many characters only, a few of them have had an impact on the show. Those characters are:

. Emma Nelson

Emma is a classic Degrassi character way back from Season 1. Her character was definitely put through the ringer a couple times but she always found a way to deal with it.

2. Clare Edwards

How can you not love “Saint Clare?” Clare is someone that I would love to meet and be friends with because she is a good person and a good friend.

3. Holly J Sinclair

Holly J made a great transition from when she initially came to now. I remember how much I hated her guts but now she has grown on me. Charlotte Arnold did a great job as Holly J.

4. Paige Michalchuk

I had mixed feelings with Paige because when she first came onto the show she was this mean-spoiled-full of herself character. But, as time passed she had grown on me from when she was raped to her anxieties in College.

5. Marco del Rossi

He was the first gay Degrassi character, serving as a role model to every teen that have a sexual identity crisis. Marco’s character is loveable because he’s so sweet and gentle and really cares for his friend, being the “Go To” person to everyone.

6. Manny Santos

Manny is another classic character, she was definitely put through the ringer and has made some mistakes in the past. But, she learned to grow from those mistakes and be a much stronger person in the show.

7. J.T Yorke

He was comedic relief, and it was heartbreaking when he died.

8. Spinner Mason

Spinner is another classic character of Degrassi. Spinner most definitely may be the only character that has made some drastic changes in his life. Spinner was this dweeb when he first started out, I didn’t care that much for his character because he didn’t seem that much important. But, as the years passed on he turned out to be one of the main characters in Degrassi.

9. Fiona Coyne

When she first came into the show, I wasn’t expecting anything much from this character. She seemed like she would be a typical female character not offering anything at all to the show. But, in Season 10 the writers decided to give Ms. Coyne a story line. Fiona is another character that really grew on me in a matter of months.

10. Eli Goldsworthy

It’s more than his mischievous good looks that make him a top character. Eli bought a dark side to Degrassi when he told Clare about his ex-girlfriend’s death. Eli might stir up some trouble in Degrassi, since he seems to be a character desperate for a love interest.

11. Darcy Edwards

Darcy was the good Christian girl that bought an innocent side to Degrassi.

12. Dave Turner

Dave brings comedic relief and how can no one not like him. He may be somewhat annoying but in a good way.

Degrassi: Now or Never

This summer’s “Steal your Heart” promo wasn’t as creative as last year’s “Shark in the Water” promo, but it was a great video. Last year’s promo was a bit of a playful, but yet mysterious type of tone, it felt like a puzzle piece that the fans had to connect. But, this year the promo was calm, peaceful setting. What had my mind boggled was that it was a short video that didn’t reveal that much mystery toward the characters, as oppose to “Shark in the Water.” I managed to make some predictions based on the video.

Prediction #1

Alli and Dave

In the video, there’s a clip of Alli and Dave sitting next to each other, Dave has his arm around her shoulders. Usually Alli might get a bit disgusted by Dave, but in the video, she is laughing and actually enjoying it. Therefore, there might be something between Dave and Alli. It’s about time. Dave and Alli would make such a cute couple. Alli needs a romance that is innocent and sweet.

Prediction #2

Clare and Jake

The first encounter in the video is that Jake is passing by and Clare spots him. The second encounter is that Clare bumps into him and then she leans in to kiss him. It seems that Clare will be the one pursuing Jake, maybe Jake might be into her but he might not be so forthcoming.

Prediction #3

Eli and Imogen

Their interaction is confusing because Eli is talking to a girl but walks away the minute he spots Clare. As Eli is approaching Imogen, he has a smile on her face, when her back is facing him. But, the minute she turns around, he turns that smile upside down, and now Imogen is smiling. At first, I thought that Eli may have mistake Imogen for Clare, but I don’t think that’s the case. Base on the smile that Imogen had given, Imogen might be into Eli but he may want to be in to her but he can’t because she is not Clare.

Prediction #4

Bianca and Drew

Bianca starts talking to this dude, but just as friends. But, maybe he wants to be something more than friends. Drew starts seeing that Bianca’s in trouble, and as her boyfriend, he must protect her. But, maybe this dude might not be in his league of fighting. The dude fires up a gun and may want to scare Drew a little.

Anya and Holly J

There are so many possibilities with Anya’s story plot, this part of the video I have to rewind so many times to see if I come up with a reasonable prediction but, there aren’t enough details. In the video, Anya is resting on Holly J’s shoulder. Then, she is dancing in front of guys, taking off her sweater. The next time we see her, she is falling on Holly J’s arms.

Declan vs. Holly J

Just when things are getting good with Holly J’s life, the ex has to show up. Not that I didn’t like Dolly J but I’m just beginning to like Sally J. Supposedly Declan returned for the Grundy Awards but in reality he’s back to win back the lovely Miss Holly J.

Holly J and Declan have lunch together, that’s where she drops the bomb, she tells Declan that Holly J and Sav are sort of a thing. If I were Declan, I would’ve reacted the same way, who would’ve thought that a few years later Bhandari would go out with Sinclair.

Declan is willing to give up the fight for love, when he won his award he gave a special thanks to Ms. Sinclair. I swear my heart melted to the ground when I heard his speech. If only I had a Declan Coyne with a charming smile and romantic qualities to sweep me off my feet.

The heat gets spicier when Declan invites HJ and Sav to his party. Declan scores one big with Holly J. Fiona’s plan to get so drunk so Holly J can spend the night. Declan kissing Holly J, and Holly J resisting pleas but then caving in.

Holly J is confusing me in this episode because I feel like she wants Declan but doesn’t want emotional attachment, which is why she’s with Sav. Both these characters have gone through a rough relationship in the past so they don’t want to get hurt again. That’s my interpretation of Sally J.

I’m very excited that Holly J got into Yale because it’s something that she always wanted. Throughout half of this season, she’s been so fixated with money and not having enough for Yale and now that she got accepted into Yale she’s happy and I feel she deserves it.

I feel bad for Declan because he really loves Holly J, he went from feeling happy to feeling sad. Holly J just needs time to think about this because it’s overwhelming her. Knowing how love is, Declan isn’t going to wait around for Holly J’s call. He’s going to move on and find someone else to love.

Clare vs. her parents

They left the storyline with the parents open-ended for a reason. The fighting is continuing and this time getting much worse. This can obviously lead to the big D word, DIVORCE.

Eli is back from suspension and wants to take Clare out on a date, their first date. On the same night is the Grundy Awards, her mother says no, because she doesn’t want Clare being out so late. However, Rebel Clare rejects her mother’s wishes and goes out with Eli anyway. Clare is rejecting every call from her mother. Clare is trying to avoid her parents because she doesn’t want to hear the big news. Maybe the big news might involve the D-word that us kids are so afraid to hear.

Clare is doing whatever she can to piss her parents off, just so her parents can see what they’re doing their daughter. Even if it means making Eli look bad, parents really don’t want their child dating a bad boy but we still date one because it’s the rebellious thing to do. Eli isn’t a bad boy in fact he’s a good guy who won’t lay a finger on Clare.

Clare dressing like a female version Eli was so hilarious. What was she thinking leaving the house like that? She must not have a mirror in her house. Did she really think Eli would like that? Her parents aren’t in school so I don’t understand why she came to school like that. They just did that for dramatic effect.

The big news is finally out, the D-word was referenced. This scene makes me want to cry, I can only imagine what Clare is going through inside. Will the writers use this as a set up for Rebel Clare or will they let this fade out and Clare will be the same old Clare?

Degrassi: This Fall Promo

12 Sep

I guess Principal Simpson kept his promise. “When you come back from break…you won’t recognize this school at all.” The changes: new dress code, police scanning, students must carry an ID card, and no public display of affection. Are there anymore tyrannous rules?

Principal Simpson is taking this too far; these usually requested for those bad schools that has bad reputation. Well, if you look at it someone did bring a knife at the school dance. So maybe police scanning is necessary enforcement. ID cards? Schools are typically supposed to have this rule so there’s nothing wrong with that. Dress code? Really? They’re some characters that have that nice sense of style like Alli, Holly J and sometimes Clare. How could Principal Simpson take that away from me? Part of being a teenager is shopping for clothes to wear to school. We believe that our clothes is who we are. No public display of affection? What does that have to do with anything? Maybe it has to do with Drew’s big rendezvous with Bianca or the fact that Mrs. Torres walked in on Drew and Alli doing nothing and misinterpreted that as doing something. Maybe it’s the Holly J’s striptease for President Sav.  (Who knows) That is crossing the line Mr. Simpson; he’s being a tyrant.

Eli and Clare

What’s going on? Clare is trying to be gothic, hence the new apparel and the dying of the hair. I really don’t think she’s doing that Eli, she’s not shallow. She’s shouting, “I don’t know who I am anymore!” Maybe she changed herself one too many times that she doesn’t know where she belongs. I think she looses her virginity; maybe that’s why she’s acting this way. I really hope they don’t change my Clare; she’s my favorite character. Then in the next promo, she’s screaming, “Stop it!”, maybe she’s looking at the mirror and seeing the person she’s become and doesn’t like the reflection she sees.

Eli looks like he’s loosing his mind, driving Clare away. He’s scrambling on the floor, possibly looking for a specific paper or something. The papers look like music notes; I didn’t know he was into music. Clare’s trying to calm him down and he’s screaming, “I can’t believe this!” Something’s telling me it’s about his ex-girlfriend and the car accident.

Alli

What mess does Alli get into now? She’s crying into Clare’s arms saying, “My life is so over.” Then, does the clip with her parents. She’s looking at her dad; her dad is giving a disappointed look as he’s walking away. Alli’s saying, “Dad, I’m sorry but I can explain.” She’s must have broken one of the rules and now she’s getting suspended. But, what rule could she have broken that’ll make her dad disappointed at her?

Holly J and Declan

The guy kissing Holly J’s neck is Declan; obviously, she’s loosing her virginity to him. What about Sav? Why on earth is Declan back in Holly J’s life? Why is Sav calling Holly J naïve? She probably didn’t want to have sex with Declan but she couldn’t say no and now she’s depressed. She had a scared look on her face while Declan’s kissing her neck, and Declan looks smug. Maybe he’s got something on her, like blackmail or something.

“I’m leaving Degrassi.”

Plenty of people say it’s Alli, due to the fact that Melinda Shankar is leaving Degrassi to film “How to be Indie,” But, I disagree. People need to listen to voices. The voice towards the end of the promo sounds like Ms. Jenna Middleton. Maybe being Next Teen Star and a pregnant teen whose in school is overwhelming, so she’s the obvious choice.

Fiona vs. her Sanity

Another powerful performance by Annie Clark, Fiona Coyne has been growing on me this season. Most people may say she’s annoying or pathetic but I feel bad for her because she’s been put in this awful situation that it takes awhile to get over.

Just when things are going great with Fiona, her attorney has to show up asking for her testimony. Fiona like most girls going through this situation would rather it fall under an oblivion. However, her mother doesn’t want to drop the charges because no one abuses her daughter and gets away with it.

Fiona’s reaction after watching Bobby’s deposition pissed me off. Instead of retaliation or even being utterly angry, she starts feeling ambivalent. Bobby said he pitied her, called her emotionally unstable saying that she made the whole thing up. (If Fiona hadn’t posted those photos online or even kissed Declan, just so Holly J could back off then maybe he wouldn’t be calling her this). If I were Fiona, I would spit on that smug-son-of-a-bitch’s face and fight even harder.

Her doctor prescribes her pills so she can deal with this situation but Fiona rather use alcohol as some sort of anti-depressant. She does a smart by putting champagne on a water bottle so nobody can tell the difference. A mother should always know when there’s something wrong with their daughter even if their daughter is discreet.

When Fiona told her mother that she made it up I was peeved. Is she really going to let Bobby win? Is she going to let that asshole get away with it so he can be free to hurt other girls?

Luckily, Fiona had a good support system and that was Holly J. Holly J made Fiona watch that video again so Fiona could have the reaction that most girls would (if they’re innocent). She made Fiona not give up this fight.

Girls that are dealing with this situation need to understand that it’s not their fault that their boyfriends hit them. It’s their boyfriends fault because they don’t know what respect means.

Adam acting Melodramatic

Adam should understand that Eli likes Clare and Clare likes Eli, so he needs to back off and let them be. He needs to find some other friends, which is where Fitz comes into play. Adam wasn’t using his senses when it came to Fitz, obviously Fitz had no intention being your friend.

The whole Fight Club scene was stupid and messed up especially when they got Bianca to fight Adam. The guys believe Adam isn’t a boy, he’s a boy between the ears. Adam, adamantly, goes up to Fitz and punches him in his nuts. Fitz wants to fight Adam after school.

If Eli wasn’t a good friend would he have take a punch from Fitz and Clare, would she have set a stink bomb that could possibly get her in trouble? Adam doesn’t realize the friends he has.

Riley!! He’s In, He’s out, He’s In, He’s Out again!! Make up your mind!!!

Riley secretly signed him and Zane up for King and King at the Vegas dance, but he regrets doing it because it’s posted online. Which means that he’s “actually” out. Riley is forced to come out to the whole football team due to some idiot’s questions. Drew comes to rescue, which surprised me because weren’t they rivals once before.

But, Riley questions coming out after a scout from Eastern University came to see him. He fears that being a openly gay player will oust him from the team. Then Zane telling him about a gay-rights activist that got killed, he starts fearing that maybe the same thing will happen to him.

I was so proud when Riley didn’t turn the offer and when he kissed Zane in public. This is a sweet love in the process. I’m so proud of my Riley Stavros, I thought it was going to take forever for him to come out.
